New Hope Presbyterian Church began as Olathe Community Church under the leadership of the Rev. Robert E. Baxter. In 1978 a large portion of the congregation of First Presbyterian Church voted to join the Presbyterian Church in America. Being that the vote was not a unanimous decision, they lost the right to their property and were then forced to find suitable facilities. They initially met in the auditorium of Millbrook Vocational School. However, it wasn't long and they were able to purchase and move into the "Butler Barn" at Highway 169 and I-35. Under Pastor Bob's shepherding the church continued to thrive.
In 1993 Pastor Bob resigned and Olathe Presbyterian Church began its first search for a new shepherd. God led the people to Pastor Dan Dermyer. Once again God's hand was moving among the people and it was decided to re-locate to a new area of town that was rapidly growing. With the new location on Black Bob Road, the congregation was filled with new hope for reaching the lost in Johnson County. Therefore, Olathe Presbyterian Church re-named herself as New Hope Community Church.
In August of 2000 the new church facilities were dedicated and regular services were held to the glory of God. In 2003 New Hope Community Church began once again to search for the man that God would call to lead as their shepherd. In January of 2004 the Rev. Jim Baxter was installed as Pastor of New Hope. With a renewed passion to regain her connection with the PCA, the church re-named herself as New Hope Presbyterian Church in America.
With each challenge we have encountered, we became stronger in our faith. We invite you to become a part of the church today and a piece of its history tomorrow.
