By design, we are problem-solvers. When we face trouble, we look for answers. Unfortunately, our answers for the problem of sin and death can never satisfy our needs. Whether we try to accumulate great wealth, seek loving relationships, achieve a top education, or in many other ways we will always fall short in finding satisfaction in a broken world. Everything we try will eventually wear out, prove unreliable, or will simply fall short. But God provided the perfect solution.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Jesus came to Earth in order to rescue us and provide hope to a world that is filled with danger and despair. Jesus became a man and lived a perfect life. He never sinned or broke any of God’s Laws. But have you ever wondered why Jesus died? Remember that God told man that he would die on the day that he disobeyed God and that is exactly what happened. Man’s relationship with God was broken and he could never be in God’s presence again. Unless God stepped in and provided a solution.
God sent His Son, Jesus, to be our sacrifice; He died in our place so that we can live eternally. Because Jesus lived a perfect life, He had no sin of His own that would be punished by God, the Father. Therefore, He could offer Himself as a sacrifice in our place. When Jesus was dying on the Cross, God poured all His anger onto Jesus. But through the resurrection Jesus proved that He conquered death and now God can pour all His love onto His children. Unfortunately, most people never receive God’s love and, as a result, will have to face the judgement of God.
“What do I have to do to receive His love?”
Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” In other words, if you believe that Jesus is the resurrected and living Lord, that He died in your place and conquered death, then God promises to give you eternal life.
